Location: This role will be expected to work full-time at the customer site in McLean, VA. Role Overview: Leidos is in search of a Senior Software Engineer - Computer Vision & Automation to contribute to cutting-edge research and development of Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) technologies that will redefine the transportation landscape. Your responsibilities will include engaging in various projects that leverage advanced technologies such as intelligent transportation systems, CAV, and AI-driven predictive modeling to enhance the safety and efficiency of multimodal transportation systems. Primary Responsibilities: • Engage in the complete software development lifecycle, covering requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support in accordance with agency standards and obligations. • Lead the development of software and system components that utilize object recognition and automation, ensuring compliance with technical requirements. • Serve as a technical lead on moderately complex to large-scale projects in collaboration with state and local agencies, overseeing all aspects from design to delivery. • Translate program and project requirements into actionable engineering tasks to enable efficient execution by the development team. • Work closely with program managers, contracting officers, and agency stakeholders to ensure technical solutions align with mission goals and regulatory standards. • Adhere to Agile methodologies, DevSecOps practices, and security/compliance guidelines as mandated by the agency. • Prepare and maintain necessary documentation, reporting artifacts, and deliverables as required by contracts and oversight entities. • Mentor fellow engineers in utilizing advanced technologies and secure development practices for government solutions. • Proactively identify and address technical or programmatic challenges that may hinder contractual deliverables, collaborating with leadership and stakeholders to find solutions. • Provide accurate estimates regarding costs, schedules, and performance for development tasks, supporting reporting and audit activities to meet agency and contractual requirements. Required Qualifications: • Master's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. • 5+ years of experience in object recognition and automation, applying this expertise in prototype or production systems. • Familiarity with at least one relational database management system (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server). • Experience with version control systems, automated testing frameworks, CI/CD tools, and DevOps methodologies (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD). • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams. • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, research-focused environment with occasional travel (up to 10%) for stakeholder meetings, testing, and site visits. • Eligibility to acquire and maintain a Public Trust clearance, which includes U.S. residency for the past three years. • All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for company sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in designing, training, and deploying computer vision models (e.g., YOLO, TensorFlow, PyTorch) for real-world detection and tracking applications. • Expertise in creating automation pipelines that integrate recognition systems into organizational workflows to enhance operational efficiency. • Skills in developing and optimizing algorithms for real-time recognition tasks under varying environmental conditions. • Ability to integrate recognition systems into larger enterprise platforms, including analytics tools and decision support resources. • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Bitbucket); Scrum Master certification is a plus. • Experience delivering comprehensive systems or applications for state and local DOTs or the Federal Highway Administration. • Knowledge of modern architectural practices (e.g., microservices, serverless environments). • A self-driven attitude with a commitment to exploring new tools and techniques.
